Egmont de Compte started his company in 1994 as an agent for other toy companies. Over the following 3 years, their reputation grew and in 1997 Egmont Toys designed, manufactured and launched their first product, the Swash, a cross between a flannel and a glove puppet that has since sold over one million worldwide. Buoyed by their success, Egmont introduced a steady stream of new products over the following years. In 1993 in-house designer, Gaetane Lanney began his work with Egmont. Lannay’s preference for designing in traditional ways with pens, paints and paper, rather than using computers has helped to establish Egmont as a creative force in the world of design-led traditional toys for the modern generation.
