MOULIN ROTY BEAUTIFUL TRADITIONAL WOODEN & SOFT TOYS
Moulin Roty was founded in 1972 by a group of friends who pooled their resources to buy and renovate a dilapidated old mill to create a space in which they and their families could live and work as a community. They began screen printing and designing and creating jewellery, lamps and decorative craft items. In 1975 two innovative products propelled the brand into the spotlight of the toy world: a wood, foam and fabric car on wheels and a stunning rag doll, showcasing Moulin Roty’s exceptional and unique design styles and skills.
By the end of the 1970s, Moulin Roty had expanded to include a full range of soft toys and traditional wooden toys and beautiful handcrafted accessories for the nursery and bedroom. In 1988 a huge fire completely destroyed the workshop taking with it all of the designs and machinery. With everything lost to the fire, Moulin Roty moved 15 kilometres away to Nort sur Endre, where they began again with an even greater focus on the design element of their products and a new slogan – “Yesterday’s toys for today’s children…” Whilst traditional wooden toys and soft toys were still the order of the day, they were given a contemporary twist with the introduction of brighter colours and little tweaks in the designs to appeal to modern children. In 1996 Hungarian Romanian, Arpad Novaks, joined forces with Moulin Roty to become the main creator of their iconic wooden and wicker toys, with 150 families in his native village in Romania using their skills to produce these beautifully crafted items.
